About the Artists

Thompson Square

A husband-and-wife country duo comprised of Keifer Thompson and Shawna Thompson, Thompson Square combine classic rock, country, and singer/songwriter strands into a sharp, pleasant country-pop mix. Shawna grew up in Chatom, AL, where she listened to acts like Alabama and Reba McEntire on the radio and learned country songs from her guitar-playing father. Keifer hails from Miami, OK, where he was drawn to everything from Roger Miller to Merle Haggard and punk rock to heavy metal before honing his songwriting talent by listening to artists like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. Shawna and Keifer relocated to Nashville the same week, and met at a singing competition a few days later -- by all accounts, it was love at first sight. Both pursued solo careers in Nashville, though, for several years before deciding to go as a duo. Thompson Square's cutting-edge style soon created a buzz, and they signed with Stoney Creek Records early in 2010 and were soon working on a debut album. An initial single, "Let's Fight," was released by the label in June of 2010, followed by a second single, "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not," a month later in July. By April 2011, the single had climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard country songs chart. A month later, it was certified platinum by the RIAA for the shipment for sale of 1 million copies.

Jerrod Niemann

Country singer and songwriter Jerrod Niemann has penned songs for Garth Brooks, Neal McCoy and Jamey Johnson, among others, and has built a strong fan base as a performer of his own material as well. Born in Harper, KS (but raised in nearby Liberal, KS), Niemann fell early under the spell of country legends like Lefty Frizzell, George Strait, and Keith Whitley, and soon learned to accompany himself on guitar while entering various talent contests. By the age of ten he was writing and performing his own songs. After high school he attended South Plains College in Levelland, TX, where he also followed his music dreams by playing in the local clubs and bars. He self-released an album, Long Hard Road, in 1999. Niemann moved to Nashville a year later in September of 2000, signing a development deal with Mercury Records in 2001. The deal didnt produce much of note, although Niemann now had a band behind him and they began touring the club circuit. He self-released a second album, Jukebox of Hard Knocks, in 2004, then signed with Category 5 Records in 2006, releasing the single "I Love Women (My Mama Cant Stand)," but the label soon folded and a projected album never appeared. The single, though, opened some doors, and Niemann next signed to Arista Nashville in 2009. His first album on a national label, Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury, appeared from Arista Nashville in 2010. Edens Edge

A country-pop-folk trio with roots in Arkansas, Edens Edge are comprised of Hannah Blaylock (lead vocals), Dean Berner (harmony vocals, guitar, Dobro), and Cherrill Green (harmony vocals, mandolin, banjo, guitar). Blaylock grew up singing in choirs, and by her teens she was already in a working band with her family and local songwriter Steve Smith. Smith brought guitarist Berner -- he had actually taught Berner his first chords on the instrument -- into the group. Berner and Green had played together a few times while both were in college, and when a mandolin opening came up in the band, Berner brought Green aboard. Now a trio, and with the name Edens Edge, they began to attract attention with their bright vocal sound. When veteran songwriter Kye Fleming ("I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool," "Smoky Mountain Rain") discovered they were based a mere 40 miles down the road from where she grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, she urged them to move to Nashville and work with her on honing their sound. Edens Edge officially made the move to Nashville in 2007, mentored with Fleming, and after performing a medley of Fleming's songs when she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the group was offered a deal by Big Machine Records. Working with producer Mark Bright, they began recording a debut album for the label. A lead single, "Amen," which paints a portrait of love in a small town, was issued in 2011. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

Jana Kramer

Actor, singer, and songwriter Jana Kramer was born December 3, 1983, and grew up with country music. Her striking good looks found her pursuing acting, and she appeared in a host of television shows, including parts in Friday Night Lights, 90210, and Entourage, before she landed the recurring role of Alex in the CW's One Tree Hill, quickly becoming a fan favorite. The exposure Kramer received on the show was parlayed into the start of a country music singing career, and her first four singles, 2011's "Why Ya Wanna," "I Won't Give Up," and "Whiskey," and 2012's "What I Love About Your Love," all broke and were featured on the One Tree Hill series soundtrack.
